ReplyDelete1. c) is incorrect.
"What's going on?" is usually a greeting. It can mean "What's new in your life?" or "What's wrong?".
2. d) reliable. If you can 'count on' someone, you can trust them.
3. very quickly
4. a) Well, I should be off.
b) and c) also use expressions for leaving, but the grammar is wrong. (You could say "Well, I shouldn't keep you", or "don't let me keep you", or "I'll let you get on" or "I must be getting on".)
5. b) a show starring real people who are not acting
6. Probably not. If you are using scare quotes, there might be a problem with your relationship!
7. Probably, yes! A bitchy person often secretly says mean things about other people!
8. b) Helping me with my homework, I was really grateful.
This is incorrect. The first part of the sentence says 'helping me' (which means someone else helped you). But the second part of the sentence says 'I'. The subject must be the same in the first and second part of the sentence.
9. a) 'The Tempest' was the last in a long series of great plays.
If you say 'the latest', it means Shakespeare is not dead, and might write another play.
10. a) grimace - I hope!
'beam' and 'grin' are for smiles. And a 'scowl' is usually when you're angry or annoyed. A grimace is good for showing sympathy.
11. c) aspiration - which is like a strong hope or dream.
12. b) Wow! I just came up with a good idea!
The other sentences don't really make sense. But 'come up with an idea' means you thought of an idea yourself.
13. c) I'm seeing stars
Although the others could be true! Perhaps you are angry because someone else hit you? Or you got hit so hard, you started thinking seriously about your life? Hahaha...
14. a) grumpy
'Scowling' is an unhappy, annoyed kind of frown. :( So 'grumpy', which is an annoyed or unhappy person, is correct.
How did you go? Let's keep studying in 2010. ^_^
